The GIS Department was created in 2000 to serve the Geographic Information System (GIS) needs of Harrison County. Our goal is to help increase the efficiency and productivity of Harrison County through the implementation of GIS applications and technology. The GIS Department maintains a large database of digital mapping layers covering the entire county. In Harrison County's GIS, features such as parcels, municipal boundaries, zoning, land-use, hydrology, roads, bridges, and recreation areas are represented as map features which are linked to a database containing certain essential information. GIS is used by several county departments, such as the County Conservation Board, the Auditor's Office, the County Engineer, and Emergency Management. The GIS Department maintains equipment, software and data, and produces hardcopy maps to support the use of GIS by county agencies. The GIS Department also manages the sale of mapping products and GIS data for private and public users as-well-as local municipalities. |
Because of their large file size, only a few maps are available for download. These maps may take several minutes to
download and are in .pdf format. You will need Adobe Reader to view these maps. You may download
this software for free by clicking the icon in the upper left corner of this page.

Some map and routing errors with Garmin GPS units have been reported to the Harrison County GIS Coordinator. It is not the responsibility of this office to ensure that any commercially available GPS unit has accurate maps. If you need to report a mapping error with a GPS unit, determine the data provider and visit there website to submit a map change. The GIS Department offers a variety of products and services to the general public and other organizations.
The most commonly requested product is a hard copy color map of a particular area within Harrison County, but digital data is also
available. Data may be requested in hardcopy form or digitally on CD-ROM. A general price list is found below.
For the purpose of cost calculations, units of direct cost for services and materials shall be based on a rate schedule of cost
types established by Harrison County. These rates, upon approval by the Harrison County GIS Department, may change
without prior notice.

Rural Address Map Book
This book contains maps of addresses by township as-well-as inset maps displaying addresses in the major subdivisions and street maps for all of the incorporated towns within Harrison County, IA. The index sheet at the front of the book is very useful in helping to navigate to a particular area of interest. These books are printed on heavy paper and spiral bound.
